"The Pursuit of Happyness" is a great movie about the amazing story of Chris Gardner's amazing resilience and grit. Highly recommend it.
What I didn't know is that he wrote another book entitled "Start Where You Are." Great book. Highly recommend it. In that book, he writes about "Your Library of Resources." He is referring to each person's life experiences. He says that each of us has a gold mine of resources available to us if we do the digging through self-examination. How do you do the digging? How do you find the gold? By writing the stories of your life!
He brings in an insightful quotes by Albert Einstein. "All true learning is experience. Everything else is just information."
He talks about a letter he received from a woman that late in her life went digging for her gold through self-examination of her past. The woman told Chris that she was considering the idea of writing her life story. Here is how Chris replied, "For anyone who has ever considered putting pen to paper and telling it all, let me echo what I said to her—Do it!"
He goes on to say that when we draw out or write out our life stories, we are creating a treasure map to all the gold that lies within us, in our "Library of Resources." And you can share that gold with your grandchildren. Write a letter to your grandchildren and change the world.
