Write about your family's "Red-Letter Days."

Red-Letter days is ancient expression that has its roots in Roman culture from 500 B.C. to indicate a day of special significance or opportunity. It was a term used by my family and has stuck in my mind as a the right way to express that some days are very, very important to the family.

My son just graduated from a police academy after eight long hard months. It was grueling, physically and mentally. He accomplished a great feat. He was chosen by his fellow graduates to give a speech on behalf of the graduating class. He rocked it! I busted my buttons with pride! This was a "Red-Letter Day" for our whole family.

I will write about this this important family event in my letter to my grandchildren. I will also include our wedding and other family weddings, the birth of each grandchild and favorite family vacations. These special days are milestones of joy and life changing events. Write about them shortly after they have happened to be specific in you writing.

Include the important days of your life in your letter to your grandchildren.
