What Stories?

What story do you hope your grandchildren will tell their grandchildren about you?

For me, it is our family beach house vacations. For one week every year we gather together a beach house. We play in the ocean. The young ones running back and forth as they joyfully try to avoid the incoming waves, eventually building up their courage to let the water get higher and higher on their legs. The older kids body surfing or boogie boarding. The smell of sunscreen. A bag of chips and a cold drink under the pop-up.

And for my family, the tradition of reading a book to the grandchildren every night. Each night a small gift related to the book is handed out. A scavenger hunt on the beach that eventually leads to a wooden treasure box full of sparkling plastic gems and exotic coins from other countries. Six bike caravans to the donut shop in the morning for cinnamon rolls. Putting jackets on and walking out to the beach at night to watch the big orange ball slowly drop behind the horizon.

Family.
