    It happened!

Saturday night I gave my letter to my oldest grandchild that is turning 16 this month. After working on my letter for almost 20 years, written 39 drafts, searched for and curated through hundreds of photos and even written a book about writing a letter to your grandchildren, it finally happened.

However, there were no visible fireworks. My wise wife sagely advised me to lower my expectations. She wasn't going to start reading it right then and there. My wife and I took our oldest grandchild to a nice dinner to celebrate her upcoming 16th birthday. We mostly chatted about things in her life. This is what is to be expected of a 16 year old.

In my heart, it was the Fourth of July! I had done it. Rockets red glare. I had completed a huge undertaking. Bombs bursting in air. There is an ancient saying that goes something like, "You are entitled to the work, not the reward." So true. But, I also know in my heart that I did my very best work to provide my grandchild with my best work. The important stories of my life and my best words of wisdom to help her have a better life. I have given my best. Boom!
